Unique Gourmet Gift Ideas

If your looking for a unique and different gift for that gourmet in your life these products are wonderful. They have made cooking and entertaining an even greater pleasure for me. Some are fun and some are now indispensable tools for my kitchen.

Mushroom logs. I had been thinking about ordering a mushroom log for a long time when my Mother in law gave me one for a Christmas gift a few years back. I just loved it and have ordered one ever since. To have mounds of fresh mushrooms sprouting every 3-4 days inspired me to think of ways to use them, much to my husbands delight. This is one of those things you think of buying for yourself but never do. Give one as a gift to yourself or to the gourmet in your life. You actually grow your own organic mushrooms indoors, within about 2 weeks, with a selection of Shatake, Oyster, Italian Stone, Namiko, Enokitake Pearl, Pioppino , the Stone, Turkey Tail and other delectable exotics that you probably have never heard of. Over 14 different kinds of mushrooms kits. There is a children's garden of mushrooms that kids just love to grow. Shipping is extra.

The Lox Box. This is one of the best and probably the most unique product I ever bought. I received my Lox Box within 5 days after ordering it and have already gone through pounds of wonderful, tasty, home made lox. It was so easy and it only takes 48 hours to make. I was so thrilled to be making my own lox I kept peeking into the refrigerator every couple of hours to see how it was progressing. Its as much fun now as I start experimenting with different flavors as it was the first time I made some. $29.95 for the Lox Box and 5 pouches for curing. Extra pouches are available in a package of 10 for $18.95. Shipping is extra. For more information click here.

Hot Stone Cooking. This is the new cooking rage that started in the UK and Australia and has now come to the US. I had a stone cooked meal when I was in Japan and I was astonished at how wonderful a meal could be that was cooked on a rock. This version which is much easier, is a marble stone you preheat in the oven and its then kept hot by 2 burners. You grill your own choice of foods at the table. Your meats, vegetables or seafood get cooked just the way you want them. The food actually sizzles when you put it on the stone to cook. This one is fun especially when you have dinner guests. Make a selection of sauces for dipping, maybe a Bearnaise for the meat and a Hollandaise or a fresh garlic and herbed butter for the vegetables or seafood. Cook some food and eat it while your cooking the rest. Oh my, so many combinations and so little time. It measures 14 1/2x7 1/2 and comes complete with 2 burners. Shipping is extra. Electric Hot Stone Cooker. This is an electric version of the hot stone cooker with a raclette. It is also for tabletop use, but with this one you don’t have to preheat the stone. It comes complete with a granite cooking stone, temperature control and 8 raclette pans (for melting cheese to put on your bread, potatoes or vegetables), and 8 wooden spatulas to scoop out the melted cheese. Both versions of the stone have a carved out grease catcher around the stone so your foods are not cooking in fat or oil. Just think of the possibilities. For more information click here

Herb Kits. You know how aggravating it is when you want to cook something and you have to go the market for fresh herbs because the herbs you bought 2 weeks ago are now turning to mush. Well imagine having your own indoor herb patch with fresh sweet basil, parsley, cilantro or thyme all year round. One of the best products I bought is this stack and grow planter, it holds up to 20 plants and can be wheeled outdoors in the spring and summer or kept indoors all year. The stack and grow planter is $39.95. The complete herb seed kit is $29.95 Shipping is extra. For more information click here

The Aero Garden. If you don’t have much space this counter top garden kit is great for year round indoor herb growing. Grow your own fresh herbs in a mini rain-forest environment. It’s a small hydroponics growing system with a built in fertilizing system and growing light to make sure your herbs grow big and healthy. Cost is $149.95. Seed kits available in herbs, cherry tomatoes and salad greens for $19.95. For more information click here
