Spanish, Mexican and Puerto Rican food
How well I remember as a kid, our Spanish family picnics at my aunt and uncles home in Long Island. My mother and I would go clamming, my aunts were off to get some lobsters, and my uncles would be preparing the rest of the ingredients for our traditional Spanish Paella. I remember the steam rising when the lid was taken off the pan and all of the succulent clams, seafood and chicken would be sitting in that bed of saffron colored rice just waiting to be eaten. We made Paella whenever we got together and it was always fabulous. Some times my mother and aunts and I would get together and spend the day making tamales from different Spanish speaking countries. pasteles from Puerto Rico, Hallacas from Venezuela and of course Mexican Tamales. My mother making the different masa's, one aunt making the different fillings, one aunt telling everyone else what they were doing wrong and me tasting everything. How blessed I was to be raised with these incredible Spanish ladies.
